Summer is finally here and I have a good deal of news. I have a new piece, Umbrellas and Birthday Cake, up at stirring . My poem “I DO,” is included in the special quotation section of right hand pointing . I have two pieces from a new collection that I have been playing with, loosely based on the U.S. Constitution, up at The Smoking Poet. In addition I have work forthcoming from Gutter Eloquence, Pemmican, The Fox Chase Review and Slow Trains. In addition, I have some readings lined up for the summer, including one with my friend and fellow poet, John Dorsey. His new book Sodomy is a City in New Jersey is awesome and available through Grievous Jones . I am always looking for new places to read, so if anyone knows of any shoot me an e-mail at rschume@hotmail.com.

I just added some new readings to my events page. I was excited to hear Ted Kooser read at Ulster Community College; wow I really love his work. I highly recommend reading Delights and Shadows. I also had the pleasure of reading with Janet Hamill at the Florida Library, she truly blew me away. Locally, I have been attending some readings including some hosted by Robert Milby and a new series in Woodstock hosted by Michael Platsky, which is pretty cool. Donald Lev was the featured reader and I just love that man, what a great writer and equally amazing person! He is the long-time editor of Home Planet News. If you don’t know about HPN, you have to check it out!

Spring has sprung, which reminds me that there’s a limited amount of my chapbook The Map of Our Garden left, so please check out my link for verve bath press on the book page if you are interested. You can also drop me an e-mail if you want a signed copy.
I am reminded of this because my new garden is underway. I am actually doing some flowers this year, which I didn’t focus on last year. Also I am skipping on the zucchini and summer squash and trying corn instead, it is the mid-westerner coming out in my husband I suppose, but that is what he wants.
As far as poetry, I have a piece up at Red Fez . Breadcrumb Scabs just took a piece to be printed in one of their upcoming print issues. I have been doing a good deal of readings and have many more on my schedule including one in Albany at Wordfest! I love the Albany poetry scene and was honored to host Dan Wilcox, Mary Panza and MURROW (Thom Francis and Keith Spencer) at Half Moon Books in Kingston this past weekend. It was terrific!
As far as poets that I am reading right now, I highly recommend Julie Buffaloe-Yoder’s poetry. Shoots and Vines recently released her chapbook and she truly blows me away! I am also reading Hosho McCreesh’s new work from Propoganda Press, and I really liked the first few poems, especially the image of the fishes and children in his first piece, but I am reading that while my daughter takes baths and tonight she overfilled the tub with bubble-bath…which took some time to deal with. We ended up making a bubble-snowman and having a “snowball” fight. Anyway, Happy Spring to all!
March 1st 2010
So, the two big snowstorms have passed, mostly we got rain and high winds. The melting snow revealed that more shingles have blown off our roof; my late father, a roofer by trade, is probably looking down in horror at my lackadaisicalness. Anyway, on the poetry front there is a lot going on. I have added many readings to my schedule including one on March 22nd at SUNY New Paltz and another one with my friend, John Dorsey, at the Bohemian Book Bin in August, so check out my Poetry Readings link. As far as publications, one of my new poems “The Heart as a Geometric Heart” was posted online at Asphodel Madness , so feel free to check it out and tell me how much you love or hate the piece. In addition, Rusty Truck posted one of the pieces from the collection that I am working on about the pool hall I co-owned with my husband. In addition, Red Fez will be posting one of my new pieces soon!
Oh, and I have to add that I have been reading some great books that I want to recommend: LOVESICK by Howie Good, the broken and the damned by Jason Hardung, Delights & Shadows by Ted Kooser, and The Desecration of Doves by Arlene Ang. I am also looking forward to reading Kevin Sampsell’s new memoir, which I just ordered.

This upcoming Thursday, I am reading at Noble Coffee Roasters in Campbell Hall at 7pm. Then on Saturday, I am hosting a reading at Half Moon Books, featuring: Howie Good, Pauline Uchmanowicz, Rusty Barnes and Cheryl A. Rice! It is going to be awesome!
